Bolena, nestled on the western side of Mount Çipini in Vlora, holds a rich history and significant cultural heritage. Referred to as the "God of the Sun," it was a cherished place for Ali Pasha Tepelena during his adolescence.
The village's roots trace back to ancient times, with Ceria as its oldest settlement, dating back to the Bronze Age. Bolena has faced numerous wars, showcasing the bravery of its inhabitants. In 1913, the Greek army encountered fierce resistance from the Bolenas during battles in the upper Kurveles mountains. Even during World War II, the village played a role, with 54 residents falling as martyrs in the Battle of Drashovica in 1943.
Throughout its history, Bolena's resilience and indomitable spirit have defined its identity, symbolizing pride and perseverance.
