Rodoni Castle

Reivews 0

The Rodoni Castle stands on the Adriatic coast between the bays of Rodoni and Lalzi in Durrës district. The Rodoni Castle is classified as a top-tier Cultural Monument. The construction of the castle took place during the 14th century. Based on the most ancient record, the castle was constructed in the form of a square, featuring four towers.

Currently, solely the principal tower measuring 10 meters in height and a minor portion of the fortification remain intact from the castle.Due to the wearing effects of the Adriatic Sea's waves, a portion of the walls has become submerged. On the right side, observers are able to view the outer walls culminating in a circular tower.

The construction of this castle started right after the initial attack on Kruja in 1450 and it is estimated to have been finished by approximately 1452. The circumference of the Rodon fortress enclosure spanned an impressive distance of 400 meters, while circular bastions crowned its uppermost points. The castle was seized from Venice back in 1500.

The local residents regard the remains of Saint Peter's Church, situated close to the castle, as a sacred site.
