Tujan Castle

Reivews 0

Tujan Castle, sited in the vicinity of Tujan village within Tirana city, embodies a valuable piece of history. During the Byzantine rule of the area, construction of this stronghold commenced in the 6th century AD.

The castle underwent reconstruction during the 14th century under the Despotate of Epirus, subsequently serving as a stronghold. A rectangular fortification that spans around 160 by 190 meters is situated within this castle's confines. Longitudinal walls, spanning north to south, divide it into three distinct sections.

Hints of habitations with walls measuring 0.8 meters in width are present within the enclosure. The construction workers wisely took advantage of the natural surroundings, leaving the eastern portion without protection due to the elevated rocky barrier. On the south and north sides, however, the walls extend beyond the rocky barrier for added security. Currently, the Tujani castle is a highly sought-after location for tourists in Tirana, providing a stunning panoramic outlook of the metropolis.
