Qeparo Village

Reivews 0

The old village of Qeparo is located on a hill on the side of the road between the village of Borsh and Porto Palermo. The village takes its name from a type of straight and tall Mediterranean fir that makes several small and strong trunks, which is found in this area.

On the hill of Ngures, a prehistoric settlement has been discovered that dates back to about 3700 years ago. The old village was built about 1,000 years ago and is considered the third settlement that the locals have changed. It was located in the area where the 3,000-year-old Karosi castle is located. It is the largest fortress in south-western Albania. Ali Pasha's tower is located about 1 km north of the village. Two Byzantine-style buildings, a monastery and a church, belong to the 18th century and are known for their wooden iconostases, located on the road leading to the center of old Qeparo.

The Himara region is characterized by its mountainous surroundings and hills that descend directly to the crystal clear sea. The valley of Qeparoi is full of citrus fruits and olives, and next to it is the long beach of Qeparoi. The beach has fine sand and the sea in the first meters is shallow, unlike the coasts of Dhërmi and Jal.

On the side of the valley full of olive groves is the river, which floods the entire valley during the winter, bringing alluvium that enriches it. There begins the beach of Qeparoi, next to the ruins of an ancient harbor reconstructed during later ages. The new village begins at the Monastery of Saint Dhimtri, which was built around 1730. Near the Shiroku Cave, the road leading to the old village branches off.

Qeparoi comes alive during the summer season with the many visitors who choose this area for its quiet beaches and fantastic traditional cuisine.
