Kudhës Village

Reivews 0

The village of Kudhës lies in the southwest of Himara, at an altitude of 335 m above sea level and 6 km away from the Ionian Sea. It is one of the seven villages of the province of Himara. Kudhes is a village hidden behind the hills and with the river passing through it makes this village look more attractive.

The name Kudhas, based on popular lexical etymology, is thought to be this variant: - It is said from the toponymy of the "Qafa e Kulës" (a dominant point at the head of the village from the north, where earlier it served as a tower for the protection of the village from pirates and their robberies ).

Early traces were found in the place called Shafkëza, which indicate the existence of a settlement of the 12th century.

Today, Kudhësi is also called the village of valleys and greens. This village has around 170 small traditional houses built with cobbled streets. There is also a beautiful church, painted all white, which creates a sense of peace and tranquility.

The inhabitants of this village are mostly engaged in animal husbandry due to the geographical position and the many roots of olive trees. There is no lack of creativity in this village, as evidenced by the songs, dances and folklore heritage passed down from generation to generation.

The bell donated by Catherine of Russia at the end of the 18th century is characteristic of the village of Kudhës.
