Benja Thermal Waters

The thermal waters of Benja are a natural treasure and a health destination in Albania. These waters are also known as the thermal baths of Benja and are located 14 km from the city of Përmet, in the municipality of Petra. On the way to reach these waters, you can follow the road route Përmet-Petran-Benje.

This thermal area lies in beautiful natural circumstances, being located in a favorable environment in the circle of massive rocks, on both sides of the Lengarica river. This makes it an attractive destination for those interested in relaxation, health and nature.

The thermal waters of Benja are rich in sulphur, and have very high curative effects. There are a total of 6 thermal springs in this area, offering treatment for various ailments. These sources are used for the treatment of chronic rheumatic diseases, offering a natural and therapeutic solution for those suffering from this category of diseases. Also, another source is used for the treatment of stomach diseases, while a last source is specialized for the treatment of skin diseases.

The temperature of the thermal waters in this area varies from 26-32 ºC, making them suitable for therapeutic use. Historically, the Albanian state has used these resources from 1964-1975, but currently they are damaged, partly as a result of unorganized use by the inhabitants of Përmet during the summer.

Despite the current challenges, the thermal waters of Benja remain an important health resource and a tourist attraction that offers simultaneous relaxation and treatment in a beautiful natural environment.
