Teqeja e Sukës

Reivews 0

Teqeja of Suka, established around 1870 by Baba Ali Bubësi, is situated on a hill overlooking the plain of Suka in Albania. It was destroyed by Greek forces in 1914 and reconstructed in 1920. Teqeja assumed a crucial role as the center of Bektashism in Albania, serving as the headquarters of the Bektashi School and a hub for the reorganization of this faith.

At the Përmet Assembly in 1921, the autonomy of Bektashism in Albania was declared, officially recognized by the parent organization in Turkey. From 1922 to 1923, the Bektashi newspaper "Reforma" began publication at Teqeja e Suka, under the guidance of Baba Ali Tomori. The communist regime closed Teqeja in 1967, repurposing it as a hospital.

Following the restoration of democracy in 1992, Teqeja e Suka was reopened. However, it suffered damage during social unrest in 1997. In 2009, a new tower was reconstructed on the original foundations of Teqeja e Suka.
