Andon Zako Çajupi Theater, Korça

The Andon Zako Çajupi Theater is located on the main boulevard of Korça, "Gjergj Kastrioti". The city theater was founded in 1951. Today, the theater building serves as a cultural home for professional artists from the south of Albania.

In the institutional records of the time after the second world war, the year 1950 is noted, but the theatrical activity was developed in this space even before that. At the end of the 20th century, this activity took place in the clubs of the time, and around 1890, the tragedy "Otello" was played. While the cornerstone of the theater is the first drama "The Upheaval", directed by Sokrat Mios, shown in Korça after the Second World War.

At the beginning of the theater, mainly dramas were shown, but from the end of the 60s, variety shows and puppet shows were added to its activity. The core of the troupe of artists, in this period, consisted of 10 professionals and 15 correspondent actors. After the change of the state system, the Korça Theater did not stop its activity, but on the contrary, it was seen by the artists of the city as a building of culture, in which they developed their activities. The Festival of Comedy Theaters "Balkan 2000" was added to these activities.

The most popular plays staged by the theater over the years are: Shadows of the Night, Greed, Lady from the City, Hell's Angels, View from the Bridge, Grave Stains, Othello ", "Accused city", "Get Mokra", "Monster", "Wake up Vasil", "They were all my sons", "39-year-old lady", "Denunciation", "Inter girl" etc.

After the restoration, today the Korça theater is one of the most modern theaters in the country. The inauguration of the theater was opened with the play "Swan Lake" by TKOB and since that day, many other plays have been staged such as: 8 women, Uji ç vret, Vetëvrasësi and Lajzëlota. Also, since 2014, the nationwide festival KOKO Fest takes place in this theater.

In its composition are the best and most qualified artists of the whole region of Korça, drama and comedy actors, singers, instrumentalists, dancers, etc. Most of these artists have in their curricula a series of achievements not only at the local level, but also at the national level. Prominent names of the stage and the screen have debuted and continue to play today on the stage of this institution.
