Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan

The Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan constitutes an extraordinary wealth of cultural heritage, finding shelter in a house of special characteristics of the 18th century. This museum is a building that stands out for its construction method and its special architecture, making it a pearl in the territory of Elbasan. Built in a period when the city was wealthy, the house has a long history and is a testament to the urban development of the time.

The house, also known as the "House of the Sejdins," was restored by the Institute of Cultural Monuments in 1983-1985 and then adapted to function as an Ethnographic Museum in 1986. About 800 rare objects are exhibited in the museum premises. , including traditional clothing, craft objects, and various civic facilities.

The museum includes a series of rooms divided according to their use in past times. The first floor, which once served as a warehouse for agricultural products, has now been transformed into an exhibition of traditional crafts of Elbasan. This part of the museum includes the corridor, the room of furs and the room of metals.

The second floor of the museum is modeled after a residential house of a wealthy citizen from Elbasan. This floor contains a range of rooms divided according to the traditional functions of a residential house, including the girls' work room, the women's room, the men's room and the bride's room.

The Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan offers a rich experience in terms of the history, culture and customs of the Elbasan community. Through the exhibited objects, materials and photos, visitors can get an in-depth perspective on the urban development of the city in different historical periods. The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. However, it remains closed during national holidays.
