Vjosa Valley

Reivews 0

The Vjosa Valley, one of the largest valleys in Albania, lies in the area of Përmet and Tepelena, including the mountain range from Nemerçka and Dhëmbeli to the highlands of Kurvelesh, the areas of Dangëlli, Dëshnica, the mountain of Trebeshina and Shëndelli. With a length of 117 kilometers and a width varying from 600 to 800 meters, reaching up to 1000-1500 meters in some places, it follows the SE-W direction.

The Vjosa Valley has a maritime Mediterranean climate, with an average annual temperature of 15°C. The average annual amount of precipitation, mainly rain, reaches 1300 mm. The vegetation of the Mediterranean bush area, especially on the eastern and northeastern slopes, has given way to fruit trees such as olives, figs, pomegranates, and even citrus fruits in protected areas such as Dragot village in Tepelena.

In addition to agriculture, the area is also known for the coal mine in Memaliaj and the thermal springs that are used to cure diseases in the areas near Leskovik and Benja in Përmet. In this natural landscape, the main cities such as Përmeti, Këlcyra, Tepelena, and Memaliaj serve as residential and touristic centers to explore and experience the natural and cultural wealth of the Vjosa Valley.
