Church of Shen Thanas, Karavasta

The Church of Shen Thanas in Karavasta, a significant site in Fier County's spiritual journey, stands as a rich repository of Albanian art and culture. Erected in 1778, its distinction lies in the exquisite frescoes crafted by the Grabovari brothers, Gjergj and Joan Katro, in 1979.

Featuring a ceiling adorned with coniferous wood, intricately primed and embellished with floral motifs, the church's frescoes are a testament to the Çetiri brothers' talent. Following the footsteps of predecessors like Konstandin and Athanas Zografi, they blend orthodox themes with stylistic elements from Mount Athos.

A highlight is the depiction of Saint Mary in the apse's conch dome, showcasing meticulous detail and artistic expression. These frescoes not only enrich Albania's cultural and artistic heritage but also enhance Fier's tourism appeal, contributing to cultural tourism at large.
