Church of Shen Athanas, Bularat

The Church of Shen Athanas in Bularat is a historic gem nestled in the picturesque Drino River valley. Dating back to the 16th century, it's part of a cemetery complex enclosed by a low stone wall, possibly built upon the foundations of an older Byzantine church.

The church features a covered hall used for ceremonies, with architectural elements spanning different periods. It boasts three naves, a gable roof, and a dome added in the 19th century. Intricate frescoes adorn its interior, reflecting two distinct painting phases.

A later addition, the narthex, connects to the main church and houses the gyneconite. Notable features include the carved wood iconostasis, the oldest preserved object, and traces of wall paintings from the 20th century that await restoration.
