Reivews 0

The Church of Arst-Miliskaut is located about three hours away from the city of Puka, in a village that stretches over Lake Fierza. This cultural landmark is also known as the "Church of the 1800-Year-Old Door" and represents an important cultural heritage in the Puka region. The name "Arst-Miliskaut" is associated with a well-known family that has had connections with this church.

In 2008, a carved wooden door dating back to 1800 was discovered. This architectural element has been preserved inside the church and serves as a significant testimony to the history of this place.

In the small church of Arst-Miliska village, two stone icons dating from the 12th to 13th century have been uncovered. These two icons are believed to represent the figures of Saint Nicholas and a Holy Virgin, carved in stone using the traditional model of woodwork.

Ancient carvings with religious subjects came to light during the reconstruction of the church, which is now known as the Church of Saint John. Scholar J. Brahaj emphasizes that the preservation of these two ancient religious figures in stone is a unique case, explained by the conditions, historical circumstances, and geographical position of the church.

The Church of Arst-Miliskaut is situated in a village that has never held a favorable position and has never become a parish; therefore, it has never had a priest in charge. Religious masses and ceremonies were held only on the day when the pastor visited or on special occasions when a priest could come for burial ceremonies.
