The village of Dukat is located south of Pashaliman Bay, in Vlora. Dukat is bordered to the northeast by Tragjas, to the east by Tërbač, to the south by Palasa, and to the west by the Adriatic and Ionian seas. This picturesque village is located at the foot of the Paliske and Qore mountains, in a deep and broken gorge, with numerous streams. It remains an impregnable natural fortress for centuries.

It is evidenced as an old Illyrian settlement since 220 BC. In Dukat, an Illyrian cemetery has been discovered. The mound is located at the foot of the eastern slope of the Memuç mountain, in the bay of the Karaburun peninsula. The graves are dated to the 11th - 10th centuries BC. based on the decorated fibulae making it one of the earliest identified tumulus cemeteries.

In the year 48 of the new era, Julius Caesar asked for help to attack and defeat Pompey. In May 1920, the Barçalla Assembly was held in Dukat, which decided to start the war against the Italian invaders. According to Mulla Isa Hasko, the name of this village must be derived from an old and valuable coin. Imported metal objects indicate commercial relations with Italy. Luigi Cardini found Neolithic strata in a streambed in the Dukat plain, near the village.

While Dukat i Ri, or as it is called Dukat-Fushë, was built after 1945 in the descent of the Saint Thanas gorge, to the left of the Dukat river and the Vlorë-Himarë highway, under the foot of the lightning mountains or as it is called today the mountain of Rim.
