Palace of Brigades

The presidential palace is a historical ensemble of particular importance in Tirana. The presidential palace and its park is a monument of cultural heritage in Tirana. This monument is of the "Architecture" type, approved in November 2004. Starting in 1992, the building serves as the Presidential Palace for official receptions. It was previously known as the Palace of Brigades, a name which was used during the communist regime in 1945, in honor of the partisan brigades that liberated it.

The palace was started to be built by King Zog I and is the fruit of the wonderful architecture of the 1930s-1940s. Designed by Italian architects, first Gulio Berte and then completed by Gherardo Bosio, this palace was to serve as the residence of King Zog. At the time of the Italian invasion of Albania in 1939, the king left and never got to see the royal palace completed. The palace and its park were inaugurated in May 1941 during the visit to Albania of King Victor Emmanuel III.

The park has an area of 36 ha and is conceptually green according to the most famous European designers of the last century. What gives the park the value of a natural monument are the most massive plantings carried out in the years 1937-1945.

•The entire park area consists of: water chain fountains, sculpture galleries in several parks, several rows of tree gardens, flowers and spiral mazes, flower garden, forest path, swimming pool garden and exercise track horses.

• This park is a veritable gallery of mythological sculptures, modeled after the Temple of the Muses, of the mythological cult of Apollo.

•Also one of the complementary constructions is the chapel built for Queen Geraldine.

Built on a gentle hill near the Sauk, the Presidential Palace is a love of 1930s architecture, where art has been poured unsparingly by the best European sculptors of the time. The palace is "Magnificent" in every sense of the word and remains a tourist destination to be visited by many local and foreign tourists.
