The National Library of Albania is an Albanian national library based in Tirana. It was founded in July 1920 and inaugurated in December 1922.
The library fund of the "Albanian Literary Commission" served as its nucleus.

• The library at the time of inauguration had about 6,000 volumes.

• After the Second World War BKSh reached a collection of 15,000 volumes.

• At the end of 1947, its fund numbered about 100,000 volumes.

Among the private libraries rich in volumes of mostly Albanian studies that joined it are mentioned: the libraries of Mit'hat bej Frashëri, Lef Nosi, Mustafa Kruja. BKSh performs the role of the archival center of all publications of the country and then publishes the National Bibliography of the Albanian book. Publishers are obliged to send 5 copies of each of their publications to BKSh.

In 1966 it was moved to a part of the new building of the Palace of Culture, where it is still today. After the 90s, the National Library moved to removing restrictive barriers, moving towards complete freedom of information for users.
