The Independence Monument is located in the "Rinia" Park, one of the most frequented parks in the center of Tirana. This monument was erected in November 2012, to mark the 100th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Albania from the Ottoman Empire, on November 28, 1912.
The monument consists of a steel structure with a height of about 8 m. It looks like a house cut on its axis and divided into two parts, bearing national symbols including the double-headed eagle and the declaration of independence carved into its interior. The Independence Monument was designed by Kosovar architect Visar Obrija and German architect Kai Roman Kikla, who were inspired by traditional Albanian architecture.
