Dervish Ali's tower, Vlora

Dervish Ali's tower is located in the center of Dukat, in Vlora. This tower received the status of a cultural monument in 1979. Its typology is a fortified dwelling from the 18th century. The construction complex of Dervish Ali has historical values. He is known as the organizer of peasant revolts against the Tanzimat reforms in Albania, during the years 1847-1848.

The edifice was built on his land by craftsmen from Ioannina. It represents a tower-type dwelling, with one of the most advanced protective features in all of South Albania. As the most important parts of this construction, we mention the observation tower, the defensive tower, the divan with stone columns and arches, the bread house, the room of friends, and other auxiliary dwellings. Towers have been opened in the apartment built on a peak plot, from where the entire surrounding territory is controlled. This turns this construction into a small, fortified castle.
