Reivews 0

The Justin Godar Street Ensemble is a cultural heritage monument in Vlora, approved as an Architecture type in July 1980. Muze Street is the historic heart of Vlora, centered around XIX century settlements. The buildings showcase classic Italian architecture, representing the city's identity. Muze street was renamed "Liberty" from 1912-1921 when Independence delegates passed through. In 1921, the street was named after French politician Justin Godard, a friend of the Albanians.

Every building on both sides of Muze Street has its own history:

  • The Sharrajve tribe constructed the Sharrajve building in 1880, renowned for its magnificence and the intriguing events it hosted. During that time, Vlora only had a sundial as its clock, which was fixed to its facade. The year 1912 marked the pinnacle of this house's worth, coinciding with the momentous occasion of the Flag's ascent in Vlora.
  • Located at the start of Muze street, stands a solitary single-story establishment, established back in 1936 by a group of knowledgeable individuals as the foremost bookshop of Vlora.
  • During the 1920s and 1930s, the construction of "Europa" hotel took place. However, it was repurposed as a youth library around the 1960s.
  • The Bezhan family's residence, which doubled as the "Bezhani Bank," was a prominent structure on this particular street.
  • During the 1920s, the Bombay Building was constructed as a highly opulent hotel and it now bears this name. The hotel, known as "New York," was owned by Xhemil Bey Vlora.
  • During the 1920s and 1940s, Mit Strati possessed a significant edifice where several prominent individuals from diverse sectors of society resided.
  • Aliko Çela's residence was situated alongside the aforementioned edifice.
  • During the 1940s, the renowned Italian surgeon Spinelli resided in a two-story edifice that stands to this day.
  • The dwelling of attorney Avdul Kuçi is also situated on the street of museums. The National Defense designated him as the president of the Special Court, which held responsible for convicting all those who aided Italy.
  • Italian entrepreneurs, who constructed the most stunning buildings in Vlora during the 1920s to 1940s, were forced into exile after 1944. Among these builders were Manai and his skillful engineer son, Ugo Manai, whose offices for their Italian company, TEMVA, still distinguish themselves in Vlora even today. These constructors were also responsible for constructing various establishments in Vlora during the period of the 1930s and 1940s.
  • Marigo Posio, who embroidered the National Flag, resided on Muze street in a two-level edifice featuring street-facing windows.
