Reivews 0

The ancient city of Orik is located in Pashaliman, which is part of Vlorë. The origins of this town date back to ancient times, precisely around the fifth century BC. Historical records indicate that it was identified as a port in Epirus by famous people such as Herodotus and Hecataeus of Miletus. This urban center became famous for its role in the military conflicts between Macedonia and Rome towards the end of the 3rd century BC, as well as in the civil war between Caesar and Pompey in 48 BC. The area is also recognized as a site of skirmishes between Roma amid internal strife and as the first urban center that succumbed to Caesar's conquest.

The archaeological monument known as the ancient city of Orik was officially recognized as part of the cultural heritage in September 1971. The ancient city, built during the 6th century, has a typology.

According to Caesar's recollections, the northern side of the city entrance was built in two phases during the Hellenistic period and later during antiquity. To the east of the city walls, a stretch of land 1.90 meters wide and 44 meters long has been preserved, of which only 15 meters can be observed due to submersion in the lagoon. The wall and entrance to the acropolis, dating from the 1st century AD, have been well preserved along with the city's fortifications. The semicircular staircase of the building is characterized by a podium decorated with a notched frame, which extends up to 1.57 meters in height.
