Marmiroi Church, Vlora

Reivews 0

The Marmiroi Church can be found in the vicinity of Pashaliman, situated in Vlora. The church follows the customary Byzantine structure of a cruciform layout, featuring a central dome, a widened entrance, and a cylindrical drum. The ruins of the former monastery are conserved in their surrounding area.

The church, constructed approximately in the 12th century, is a significant cultural artifact from the Byzantine era. This appellation is derived from the usage of marble stones (Marmiro) obtained from the remains of historic Orik. This is made up of three gateways that align with the northern, southern, and western directions. On the church's eastern side, there exists an apse that is brightened by a modest window. Rugged rocks sourced from the nearby stream have been utilized in erecting the church. The gates and facades were embellished with worked stones extracted from the remnants of the historical city of Orik. The building technique involves the use of mortar to interlock the stones and incorporate pieces of bricks and tiles.

A visit to this place is a captivating event, overflowing with diverse sensory experiences that seamlessly blend the sea, mountains, and serene ambiance.
