Eremite Cave of Koshorisht

Eremite Cave of Koshorishti is a rich treasure of Albanian history and culture. This cave is also known as the Church Cave and is considered the largest and most important cave in Albania. In the scientific literature, it is known differently as the Letmi Cave due to its location on the side of the Letmi Mountain, but for the purposes of this description, we will call it the Koshorishti Cave.

The village of Koshorisht is a settlement mentioned since the 15th century and has a long and rich history. In 1467, he was registered in an Ottoman cadastral register under the name Kosharishte. The Koshorishti Cave was declared a First Category Cultural Monument in 1971, making it an important archaeological and cultural destination.

In 1982, an ethnographic expedition carried out an in-depth research in the Koshorishti Cave, aiming to reveal the folk costumes of the province and the cultural values of the paintings located in this cave. The exploration has provided a rich perspective on the painted human figures and added to the knowledge of the history and traditions of this area.

The hermit cave of Koshorishti, with its artistic and historical wealth, reveals an overview of the life and culture of the medieval period in Albania, making it an attractive destination for researchers, historians, and those interested in the country's cultural heritage.
