Kavaja Rock

The Kavaja Rock is a conglomerate and sandstone formation dating back to the Miocene era, striking the shoreline near the bay of Durrës. Stretching 560 meters in length and 160 meters in width, this natural monument bears witness to centuries of historic battles.

Its name is linked to the Battle of Dyrrah in 48 BC, a significant event between Caesar and Pompey. Throughout history, this site has been pivotal in military conflicts and strategic endeavors to control the coastal region. Fortifications and a network of tunnels once safeguarded this territory from invaders.

Erosion and wind have sculpted the Kavaja Rock, rising 105 meters above sea level to offer breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea and Albanian coast. Its distinctive shape, adorned with evergreen shrubs and trees, creates an enchanting landscape for tourists.

Following periods of warfare, the Kavaja Rock has opened up to tourism and economic development. Today, it stands as a popular tourist destination, renowned for the beautiful beaches that encompass the area.
