The village of Shëngjergj is located east of Tirana, about 40 km. It lies mainly in the basin of the upper flow of the Erzen River, it is bordered to the east by Martanesh, to the west by the mountain of Dajti and Priska e Madhe, to the north by Benda and to the south by the northern edge of Çermenika.
Shëngjergji previously bore the name Tomadhe Province. This name has been treated by Albanian and foreign linguists and researchers, which the prominent linguist Eqerem Çabej mentions as the word "ancient sound" of Albanian. While prof. Mr. Shuteriqi mentions it as a place of residence, which means: The Land of Thomas. The village has an amazing beauty of three saints: Shëngjergj, Shënmri and Shëngjin, the three villages of this province.
In the history of this province, its geographical position has played a big role, where important passages, such as entrances and exits, have also been used by invaders over the centuries.

• Skanderbeg had an area of defense and of his military actions, especially during the year 1443, in support of Vladan Arianiti, the brother of Donika, whom he was married to.
• In 1572, this area was the center of the uprising against Kruja, held by the Ottomans.
•After the 1600s, it was called "Shëngjergj" and this name became official after 1900.

Shëngjergji has a mountainous relief that rises from 300-1800 m and with the lowest part, the upper Erzen valley. The vegetation is rich in: oak, beech forest, some pine, spruce, etc. There are rich summer pastures in the eastern part and also in Qafëmolë-Derje there is a wild boar reserve. The main direction of the economy are: bread grains, potatoes, beans and small cattle. Folk costumes are among the oldest in Central Albania. The characteristic of the province of Shëngjergji is the weaving of carpets, especially weaving and other handicrafts. Anyone who visits Shëngjergji cannot be left without trying the diverse cuisine, authentic specialties such as: goat cheese and cottage cheese with olive oil, mountain tea with honey, fritters with corn bread, pilaf with crushed wheat and topped with roasted meat the kid.
The village of Shëngjergj remains to be visited for the beauty of the nature that surrounds it, for the historical and cultural values such as the Shengjin Waterfall, the Vali Cave, the Mountain with Pits, the Old Tomb, the Holy Place, the ruins of the Shengjin Castle and the Saint George Castle.
