The Përroi i Thatë is located on the western side of the Albanian Alps. The stream is an affluent of Lake Shkodra, with a length of 44.5 km and a watershed area of 233 km2. It is built of karstified limestone and dolomite, forming a very characteristic valley. It got the name "Dry Stream" from the surface runoff only during the period of fullness. While for the most part of the year its bed is dry and the waters are discharged into the lake of Shkodra, mainly through the underground route.
