Ndroq village, Tirana

 The village of Ndroq is located in the valley traversed by the Erzen River, in the middle of the highway that connects Tirana with Durrës, while the old Ndroq is further south. The total area is over 4.5 km² and the population reaches 5035 inhabitants.
It is thought that its name derives from the words ndë root or ëndë foot of the mountain, since the village is located at the foot of the hill of the Ndroqi castle. According to the data, it has existed as a settlement since the Roman period. But it is mentioned for the first time, as a village of the Andronikis with about 23 houses in the Turkish notebook of Sanjak of Albania, drawn up in the years 1431-1432.
The hilly lowland between Tirana and Durres is divided by two geographical corridors: the gorge of Vora and the valley of Ndroqi, between which pass the two natural roads connecting Durres with the fertile plain of Tirana and the deep highlands of Martanesh, Kruja, Mati and Dibra. On the dominant hill rises the castle 387 m above sea level. The largest neighborhood located southeast of the castle was Varoshi. In the surrounding hills lie other neighborhoods.
Ndroqi is known for olive cultivation, the roots of some of them are 3000 years old. Several workshops have been set up where olive oil of very good quality is produced. Also, the hills of the Shesh village are well-known for their vineyards, where two well-known types of grapes are cultivated, the black square and the white square, from which two well-known Albanian wines are named.
In Ndroq, the organization of the "Ndroq Bio-Fest" has become a tradition. This activity, conceived as a fair of agricultural and livestock products of the area, aims to promote and encourage agro-tourism. This beautiful village only 16 km from the capital remains an attractive destination for a pleasant weekend with family or company. A different day, full of history, in the beautiful nature, fresh air and with the varied and traditional dishes of the restaurants located by the road.
