Mosaic of Tirana

Reivews 0

The "Mosaic of Tirana" is an archaeological gem found accidentally during the construction of the "Partizani" block of buildings in 1972. Dating back to the 3rd century AD, it initially served as a village center before transforming into a rustic villa. Later, in the 5th-6th century, it became a Paleo-Christian basilica, reflecting evolving urban structures and religious beliefs.

Protected by the Institute of Cultural Monuments since 1972, recent excavations in 2003-2004 revealed more of its complex, including fermentation tanks and Roman tomb stelae. This site offers a rich insight into the urban life and historical developments of Tirana and the broader region, showcasing Albania's vibrant history and culture.
