Reivews 0

The Çerçiz Topulli monument stands proudly in Gjirokastra's main historical square, honoring the revolutionary figure after whom it is named. Born in Gjirokastra in 1880, Çerçiz Topulli is revered as a national hero for his valiant resistance against Ottoman rule in the early 20th century. Notably, he orchestrated the assassination of the Turkish Bimbash, an Ottoman commander, alongside his brother Bajo on February 25, 1908.

Following Albania's independence in 1912, Çerçiz continued his fight to defend the new nation from invaders. Tragically, he met his end in Shkodër while battling Montenegrin forces. Gjirokastra residents liken Çerçiz to the renowned revolutionary Che Guevara. Overseeing the square is a sculpture of Çerçiz, crafted by Odise Paskali, Albania's foremost artist in socialist realism.
