The village of Bërzhita is located 16 km southeast of Tirana. Bërzhita lies on both sides of the Tirana-Elbasan national road. The total area is over 68.5 km² and the population reaches 4,973 inhabitants. The discoveries made in the Black Cave prove that this area has been populated since the Paleolithic until the early Middle Ages. Among the first findings and of special value are some flint fragments, belonging to the Late Paleolithic, some fragments of clay vessels, the earliest of which belong to the Neolithic 7000-3000 years BC, some finds of the Bronze Age and iron approximately 2000-500 years B.C.
The Bërzhita area supports economic development in agriculture, livestock, fruit growing and olive groves, with a good geographical position between the mountains and the plain. The most intensive agricultural production is carried out in the plain area along the Erzen river valley, with the production of vegetables and fruit trees. Livestock is also seen as a strong point of economic development, as the territory has many pastures.
The relief of Bërzhita consists of two mountainous areas and a valley where all its twelve villages lie. The territory is traversed by the Erzen River, the Murdhar River and several small and temporary streams. In the north of the village of Pashkashesh is the Skorana catchment, which is supplied with the water of the Erzen river and has mainly an irrigation function.
Fauna is relatively rich, especially in the area with denser vegetation. Among the animals that have a greater prevalence are: wolf, fox, wild boar, rabbit and coot. In the territory of Bërzhita, birds such as: grebes, sandpipers, partridges, turtledoves, etc. are raised.
Bërzhita remains to be visited for the clean and fresh air, for the green fields and hills, for the blue water of the Erzen River and the source of Skorana. Beautiful restaurants have also been built in Bërzhitë, adapting to the surrounding nature, with a variety of traditional dishes and fresh products of the area.
