Badhra Castle, Borsh

Badhra Castle is located in the South-West of Borsh village and 7 km from Fterrë village. It is one of the first castles of the Bronx Era built by the Illyrians in the XIII century BC.
The castle appears in the form of an irregular ellipse. Both from the technique of building the walls, with a height of 2 m, with unworked stones of medium and small sizes without mortar connection, as well as from the archaeological material, it represents one of the earliest phases of the construction of fortified settlements in the period from 1500-1200 years before the new era. The shape of the wall is meandering and irregular, so that it fits the terrain. On the southern side it is protected by some fallen rocks, and it was built in several stages

The surface inside the walls is partly rocky and there are no traces of habitation. The castle has not been used for a long time, only as a defense against robbers. These data give us the idea of a tribal settlement, where the patriarchal community is located in a territory suitable for livestock. Outside the walls of the castle (on the North and West sides) the ruins of the first 15 dwellings of the Bronze Age in Albania are preserved.

They shed light on the patriarchal tribal organization of the Illyrian society of that time. Badhra Castle belongs to the same period as other Illyrian castles discovered on the Ionian coast, such as: in Koros, Qeparo, Kalivo. With Badhra we have the earliest model of the birth of forts. It represents different stages in realizing the connection between fortified and inhabited space. Badhra Castle dominates the entire coast of Lukovo, Borsh, Piqeras. Inside the fortification, circular dwellings have been discovered.
