Devoll River

The Devoll River holds great significance in South-Eastern Albania, stretching 196 kilometers from its source at Mount Gramoz to its confluence with the Osum River, forming the Seman River. Originating at an altitude of about 960 meters, it flows northward toward Bilishti before veering westward through a picturesque gorge flanked by Mount Dry and Morava.

Its catchment area spans approximately 3,139 km², with an average flow of 49.5 m³/s, predominantly sustained by surface water sources. The water's mineral content measures around 390 mg/l. Renowned as the "guard of the gate" in ancient Greek, the Cangonji Gorge, linking the Devoll and Korça valleys, still carries echoes of its past name, preserved in the modern village of Pilur along the Bilisht-Korçë national road. Beyond its economic importance, the Devoll River blesses the region with breathtaking natural vistas and serves as a vital lifeline for local communities.
