The National Museum of Independence is located in the south of the city of Vlora, near the port. This is the first Albanian museum, created in 1936.
This building originally served as a quarantine building and after the declaration of independence on November 28, 1912, it became the seat of the Provisional Government of Ismail Qemali for 14 months, until January 22, 1914. The most important environment of the museum it is the office of the Albanian prime minister and the meeting hall of the first Albanian government. From 1936-1939, it served as a historical museum and after 50 years had passed since the decision to declare independence, the building was declared a National Museum.
The building consists of two floors, with two windows each. There are also two entrances, where one of the entrances faces the sea, while the other faces the sea. The museum is equipped with important documents. There are: the photographs of Ismail Qemali and Isa Boletini, the original flags of the rebel groups and original books of the revivalists of that period. Also some original objects of "Old Man Whitebeard" such as: the cane with the bronze eagle, the work chair, etc.
The National Museum of Independence is an inspiration for every Albanian, more than anything else. When you are in front of her, your eyes go straight to the balcony where the flag was raised. A proud flag always stands there, as a follower of the traces of our history. It remains the most visited building in the city of Vlora and beyond.
