Buna Lake

The Buna River flows from Lake Shkodra and flows into the Adriatic Sea. Buna is located near the city of Shkodra, between the Rozafa Castle hill and Tarabosh Mountain. The river is 44 km long and flows along the plains of the Buna coast, which include the Anamal Field, the Trushi Field and the Velipoja field. Buna is the only river in Albania, with a real natural delta. In its delta is the island of Ada, which divides the river into two branches flowing to the sea. Ada and the right branch belong to Montenegro. The island "Franz Jozef" and the "island without name" which are located right next to Ada, belong to Albania. Buna is a typical lowland river, characterized by being partially navigable. A large number of streams flow into Buna from Ana e Mali, the longest of which is the Milla stream and after it the Megjureç stream.

• In this area the flora is very rich with: populus, salix, pinus, fraxinus, alnus, paliurus, nimphea alba phragmites, juncus etc.
• Also, forest vegetation in the literal sense can be found on the banks of the river in the reserve of Velipoja, the island of Ada and Franc Jozef, in the villages of Reç, Sutjel, Shënkoll and on the island of Bahçallek.
• The vegetation of these forest areas mainly consists of several species such as: poplars, willows, ash trees, oaks, as well as gooseberries, acacias, sycamores, gorse, sea buckthorn, etc.
• Buna River, Velipoja Reserve, Domni Swamp, Viluni Lagoon are full of birds.
• There are 216 species of fauna with national status and 36 species of fauna with global status such as Viluni Lagoon.
• The wetland is a refuge for migratory seabirds and attracts many species of birds such as: grebes, ducks, mallards, grebes, grebes, coots. The area is also an important feeding and migration habitat for: Dalmatian pelicans.

Many wild animals live in the forest, such as: hare, jackal, wild boar, pheasant, etc.
The river, together with Shkodra, the sea and their natural resources create great opportunities for the development of tourism: environmental, aeronautical, historical and cultural, sport fishing, sport hunting, etc. The Buna River is a real miracle of nature, an extraordinary natural phenomenon.
