Reivews 0

Karaburuni is a peninsula that lies in the Mediterranean Sea, in southwestern Albania along the Albanian coast of the Ionian Sea. The Strait of Otranto, with a length of about 15 km and a width of 4.5 km, separates it from Italy.  It is a peninsula that is almost completely surrounded by the Adriatic Sea to the north and the Ionian Sea to the south.
The strait of the mesochannel separates the Karaburun peninsula from the island of Sazan, while to the southeast lies the bay of Vlora.  His name Karaburun is derived from the Turkish word for black cape.  Geologically, the foot of the channel in the peninsula represents the continuation of the Akrokeraunian Mountains, which are also the highest and widest system of mountain ranges that run parallel to the Ionian Sea.  The Karaburun Peninsula is sometimes called the Akrokeraunian Peninsula because of the range's name itself.

The highest peaks are: Çadera peak as the largest with 839 m, Flamur peak, Koreta peak and Ilqe peak.  The peninsula experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and generally cold and dry winters.
The area has high and important biodiversity in the Mediterranean, such as: alpine and subalpine meadows, pine and cypress forest, Macedonian fir, ilke, valanidhit, typical Mediterranean maquis, typical vegetation of sea cliffs, wetlands and remnants of alluvial forests, with a littoral floor  quite well expressed, with a well-developed benthos, wide posidonia meadows.  It is also an area with a very rich marine and terrestrial flora and fauna.  The fauna is represented by several threatened and endangered species such as the sea and green turtle, but also the Mediterranean monk seal, the rarest type of seal in the world.  Dolphins and many other species are found in marine waters, which are protected by several conventions, as well as the Mediterranean seal, one of the most threatened species in the world.
The land mass of the peninsula has been designated as a nature reserve, while the coastline and surrounding sea waters are part of the marine park.  The peninsula is dotted with sandy and rocky beaches, sea caves, steep cliffs and several bays.  Also, among them, the cave of Haxhi Ali, the cape of Gjuhëza, the cape of Galloveci, the bay of Skaloma, the bay of Arusha, the bay of Dafina, etc., remain to be visited.  With these elements and many others, the Karaburun peninsula constitutes one of the most potential and attractive areas, in terms of the development of tourism and ecotourism.
