The Archaeological Museum is located in the center of the city of Saranda. From where visitors have the opportunity to learn about the beginnings of civilization in Onhezmi, which start in the III century BC. In that period it also served as a port of Phoenicia, the capital of Kaonia, the kingdom of Pyrrhus of Epirus. During the IV century, the city was surrounded by fortification walls, with a height of 8.5 m.
The building where the museum is located today was once the old post office of the city. It has become the center of reference for many archaeologists and historians and of various research related to history, archeology and the Albanian cultural heritage as a whole. Its renovation was done in 2008.
Throughout the year, this museum welcomes many foreign and domestic tourists. Saranda as a city has a lot to show and the museum remains the main referent in these guides, which is an important part of the "Archaeology-Traditions-Visual Art" museum group.
