Durrës Castle is located in the heart of the ancient city. The castle is part of the old fortified city of Durrës and was built by the emperor of the Byzantine Empire, Anastasius. He was originally from Durrës and made it one of the most fortified cities on the Adriatic.

Repairs to the walls have been carried out since the devastating earthquake of 1237. The medieval walls are currently about 4.6 m in height and the three entrances of some of the fortification towers have been preserved in almost a third of the original length of the castle town. The castle was reinforced with several guard towers by the Republic of Venice, while during the occupation of Albania by the Ottoman Empire, its walls were reinforced.

The circular tower (Torra), was built in the XV century on the Byzantine tower. This is evidenced by the presence of blocks from the previous enclosure, architectural fragments and ancient reliefs. The tower has a diameter of 16 m and a height of 9 m. The tower is entered through an arched brick gate. The tower is rich with 5 turrets and 3 compartments (alcoves). The top perimeter is closed with blinds. The interior is built with dome-shaped bricks. The ascent is done from the inside, with narrow and steep stairs. On the curved wall of the cylinder-like building, five small windows look out to the sea. The terrace of the tower is decorated with balanas that resemble the constructions of small forts.

The castle was declared a monument of cultural heritage, of the "Archaeology" type, in 1971. The Venetian Tower, this symbol of Durrës, will tell about the cultural heritage of this city, through technology, virtual tours, applications, digital periscopes, a flight in time . It remains a tourist attraction for many local and foreign tourists.
